Well, this is a guess on the wood, but it reminds me of 'Tree of Heaven' but can't remember the real name. The way the rings look make me think of that wood. Very light weight.

Nice piece.
The light colored wood makes me think of Ash.

Ash usually has more pronounced grain........I think it is probably Ailanthus....tree of heaven. The creamy color and the bit of a greenish tint look like the pieces I have seen of ailanthus.

Would you be thinking of Paulownia perhaps. Super light wood from Japan escaped here and a weed tree. Ailanthus is probably a better guess. Easy to tell. Ailan. is about the weight of ash and Paul. is half as heavy. One of the very lightest of woods.

Not as heavy as ash, but fairly hard, not soft. Bark reminded me of English walnut.

My guess would be Elm.

Looks like some of the local black locust I got a while back - same color and grain...bark sounds the same. Was it heavier than usual?

No doubt, that is Ailanthus AKA Tree of heaven or AKA Chinese Sumac, not just the color but especially the more bright yellow between sap and heartwood is a telltale Ailanthus sign, smelly when wet but looks just great and turns fine.

I’ve turned quite a bit of it, seems a lot og people are not keen on it, but I like it :D
