Hi all,

A coworker is talking about doing a Jewish marriage contract on our laser, with a cut decorative border and either cut or engraved/marked text. We were talking about different materials and the idea of doing it on real parchment (e.g. sheepskin, not just fancy paper) came up. (A deep stone engraving is currently the second choice.) I thought I'd ask the professionals if anyone's ever lasered real parchment.

Thanks!
Matt

Matt,

Obviously I have no experience with this since I have no laser. So this will be an interesting answer from folks. My guess is it would be like working with leather, but leather that has zip for moisture in it?

I am curious what experience folks can share.

I'm with David... I imagine it will engrave like most rawhides.

I didn't help with anything except preparing the file and offering some advice, but here's the result:

He wasn't able to get the text very dark, so he's going to try rubbing some pigment into the engraving on his test pieces.

How long did it take to cut that border?
