Old cast iron radiator needs to be replaced. Want to replace it with a slim low profile ( I guess that is what they are called ) baseboard radiator. Is this a hard job to do ? what parts would need to be replaced , other than replacing the old radiator with the new baseboard?

Thanks,

Dead easy Clarence, I did it and I'm far from a plumber :), just the new rad, mounting kit (pipework that may need to be adjusted for fit) check the pipe diameter though, old rads tend to have imperial piping over here with new pipe being metric.

cheers

It's really easy to do. You'll find you get much better heat distribution also.

installing a new unit may be easy BUT MOVING the old unit down the stairs may require a strong back

You can't just replace a cast iron radiator with a slim copper fin baseboard radiator. Contrary to what the other person said, you will get worse heat distribution. Cast iron radiators run at about 140 degrees, much to cool for the common copper finned baseboard to work properly. They won't convect any heat below about 160 degrees, and the heat output is very low.
