I have been looking for a table saw in the $500 range. I can get a 7 year old Steel City (which seems like a better saw to me) or the Ridgid. Any suggestions/thoughts one way or the other would be appreciated. I guess this is my dilemma: choose a better used saw, or slightly inferior saw that is brand new? I am a hobbiest and don't have 220.

Thanks,
Chip

I think you would be better off to watch Craig's List for a used cabinet saw. Used Deltas and Jets go for $700 to $1,000 and will be a better long term "investment" IMHO.

Thanks, Bill. I should have said that $500 or maybe a tad higher is my limit. I am a hobbiest and that's about all I can swing.

Chip, I agree with you, the Steel City should be a better saw. Should do a really good job for you.

The 35600 is a very close cousin to the Craftsman 22124 that so many folks (me included) really liked. This is an indication of the quality Orion folks who designed both saws. The Steel City came with different fence options, some nice and some so-so. If I hadn't had a special opportunity come along I would probably still be happily using my 22124.

I'm very happy with my S.C. 65720 saw.
Bought it in 2008.
