Stop at a garage sale this morning, and paid a whopping $1.50 for a cordless drill290423the only markings I've found is an 8012, and a SAMSON stamped on the arms. 290424Haven't measure it yet, seems to be either a 8" or a 12" sweep? 290426Wood is great shape, almost scratch free, even. All parts work freely, too. Maybe I paid too much for this?? Bit is the only one I owned, for now.....

Pexto Samson braces are fantastic. It is indeed a 12" brace. I paid $20 for my 12" Samson.

Good buy. You may already know that swing is twice the distance from the centerline of the chuck to the centerline of the crank handle. 12" gives you plenty of torque for big holes; if you get hooked on this kind of cordless drill, you'll want other sizes, too, but this one would do fine as your only brace.

Ok, what should I do with the "sander" i bought for about $0.50??290504 I think it might be a "Blue Grass" brand of sanders? Used a roll of paper. Right now, I have a strip of sanding belt clamped up in it. Might have to go looking around for some of the rolls...

Also picked up a small Corded drill290505a PowerKraft 3/8" drill. Doesn't have a "Reverse" on it. Does have a chuck key, as this was before they put
keyless chucks on electric drill.

Reverse on consumer drills was a prety radical innovation in the early 60s. I was working with a guy, and one of us reversed the drill to get a little more life from the sanding disk we were using - it had started to tear, and running it backward kept it from tearing further. Of course, it also unscrewed the center screw holding the disk on the arbor, as my coworker discovereds when the disk spun off into the weeds.
