What the maximum diameter a Shopsmith can turn between centers?

You can turn up to 16-1/2" diameter (see this page) (http://www.shopsmith.com/markvsite/lathe.htm) . However I used to own one and they are very light, meaning if your piece is even slightly off balance the shopsmith will clatter and clang and jump all over the floor. Between centers I would spin a maximum of 5 or 6 inches, and this would depend on the length of the piece, mainly the weight. A faceplate turning you can turn large diameters but again the weight and anything off balance won't work.
