Just turned this coffee mug out of some scraps I had laying around. Sorry in advance on the poor lighting and picture quality. I'm on disability and can't afford a light box or a camera bet my iPhone!.
Before I put the finish coat on I want to write the wood species on the bottom along with my signature.
I know the light wood is maple. But not sure of the reddish wood. It's hard but cuts smoothly and sands to a nice finish.
Anyone have any thoughts on what type of wood it is??
Thanks

It didn't seem like other cherry I have turned and it didn't have the same smell - but I could be wrong :):)

Ricc, I'm thinking Cocobolo, or some other rosewood.

I'm thinking more like Padauk.

Since it didn't smell like Cherry I'll rule that one out... I'd also guess Padauk or maybe Jatoba.

When turning it seemed denser than cherry that I had turned before. It's not as orange as the Padauk I have turned. It was actually a lot lighter in color but in the pic it has one coat of Watco danish oil. Definitely not cocobolo as I am allergic to the dust so it never enters my shop.
It might be Jatoba as David suggested. I checked google images and it looks very close. So unless anyone else has any suggestions I will assume it's jatoba.

Looks like Jatoba to me, aka Brazilian cherry, your description sound right too....

Jatoba is a good guess for sure. One other might be red heart--a tropical.
