Does anyone know where I can buy a template I can use to rout a 6" hole (with a pattern bit)? Thank you.

Buy http://www.amazon.com/General-Tools-Instruments-55-Circle/dp/B00004T7P1 one of these cut your hole, and keep the the cutter for future projects.

Instead of a template, you could use a circle jig for your router. Here's an example, but there are many designs out there -- http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=40970&cat=1,43000,43001 Some designs can be shop-made. You can also google "trammel".

Or if you really need a template, not the hole, you could use the jig to make the template.

I use an adjustable drill to cut custom size holes. Didn't cost much, very versatile, and very fast to set up.
