I ended up with numerous of my dad's tools Saturday, writing a page on that now. I also have tools from my grandfather and my uncles. I would like some method of removable tag to label some of them as to where they came from. Any ideas?

Here (http://www.storesupply.com/pc-13407-934-strung-merchandise-tags-5-white-93165.aspx) is an easy solution. You should be able to find a variety of sizes at Wally World or your local office supply store.

Perhaps get some letter punches for the first name of each relative to permenantly mark the tool and keep a written history in print and digital, or use numbers, 1 for Dad, 2 for Grandfather and so on. You could do the tags too, but if they get lost, you have the backup.

Easy. Each name would get a colour, each colour would be a piece of tape around a handle of some sort on the tool. Say, a Red for one relative, maybe Blue for another. Does not have to be a wide tape, either. Then just have a list on your tool box, showing whose colour are whose tools.

My Late father always ground three marks on all of his tools. He just touched the tool to the side of a grinding wheel, three times.

Rub on Letraset letters
Then clear coat with poly a couple of thickish coats.

You could use clear lacquer or shellac but that is up to you. Polly is going to be most durable because it is thick and tough but will take a scraper or paint striper to get off later.

Before applying clean the surface well with rubbing alc or denatured

Tape turns goopy and slimy if you use the tool over time. I hate that.
The colored paint mark Idea is good if you need something that simple.

I used the letraset lettering on the end of nut drivers and clear coated with the polly and that way I could see the sizes while in my apron. Stayed on for years, Never came off with daily use. Looked very professional.
