My name is Chris and I'm from central MS. Just recently got into woodworking and have bought and cleaned up a few planes along the way. I found a VERY rusted up one at a flea market for $3 and brought it home. I cleaned it up a little bit and cannot find any makers markings on it, any way to tell who made it? Lever cap has 115 cast into the back. Frog has C 55 cast into the bottom.

Stanley used that shape lateral lever on some of their Defiance planes. That's my vote.

The brass nuts and the tote look a little nicer than some of the Defiance that I've seen; and the fully-milled frog is definitely nicer than a lot of the Defiance planes I've run across; but I'm not as good at this stuff as others. My first instinct was Sargent, but those are usually better labelled.

Christopher,
Welcome to the Creek.
I'm with Greg on this looking like a Stanley product.
Do you have a way to measure the thread pitch?
Also, what is the blade width?

Thanks for the info guys. The measurements are: Sole 2 1/8 X 9 1/4, the blade is 1 3/4 X 7 1/8, Lever Cap is 1 3/4 X 5 1/8 and the chip breaker is 1 3/4 X 5.

Sounds like a #3. I thought it looked small for a #4.

I have a #3 Bailey that I like a lot. It falls somewhere between a block plane and a bench plane.
It is a bench plane of course, but I use it a lot where my apron plane is a little small.
My #4 and up all have Veritas breakers and irons in them, but the # 3 has the Stanley iron and breaker, however it does just fine.
It is a Canadian built and was a school plane in an earlier life.
