This piece only needed oil and lacquer to enhance what Mother Nature did to this golf course maple. This bowl is about 13" across and 3" deep. The brown and black are in the heart wood of this tree. My daughter has claimed this one. I had a little fun with my 3/8" spindle gouge on the bottom

By 3/8 spindle gouge, do you mean the detail pointy type for the rings? For sure, excellent colors.

It is a deep fluted 3/8" spindle gouge sharpen to a pointed long bevel. I have a Crown and Thompson, but they both turn similar. I also have a Thompson 3/8" detail gouge, but prefer the deeper flute.

Mother Nature did a good job coloring that one; and you did not a bad job with it yourself. Nice Piece.

You have made some masterpieces from this beautiful wood. I don't see how they could be any more beautiful. Isn't it a joy to find and work with magnificent wood like this?
