I turned this small bowl as a surprise Mother's Day gift for Colleen. She loves it! :D

289149 289150 289151 289152

White Birch, 5" (127 mm) diameter x 3.5" (89 mm) high x 1/8" (3.175 mm) thick. Sanded to 320 grit, then given multiple washes of TransTint Red dye to get to the desired shade of red. Finish is wipe-on poly and Ren wax.

As always, your opinions, comments and critiques are welcomed!

Thanks for looking!!

I have given my wife a turning or two........she likes them when I do, but she likes the card with the $$$$ in them more, I think!:rolleyes: :D Now she did not say that, but I have my suspicions! ;) Glad Coleen liked this Steve........I can see why! Very nice form and color. I have not turned any white birch as of yet.........looking forward to it someday when I get a good piece!

All of your work is outstanding Steve, I'm going to have to try dyeing my plain wood, especially since I have around 150 dead ash trees from the emerald ash borer in my woods.

Thanks for the comments everyone - I do appreciate it!

It was nice to be able to surprise Colleen! She loves the bowl and immediately put it to use holding winter green mints!

It isn't easy to turn a bowl that the form and color say it all. It is so simple, but so elegant. I love the subtle band of lightness around the waist of the bowl. Great job.

Beautiful bowl, Steve;
lovely colour and shape. I have turned some Birch and it really is nice especially if it has some spalling in it....
Is this an END grain turning?
nice!

Pete - glad you liked the bowl. You are correct, this is an end grain bowl.
