Wax for treating board ends

Is there a special wax for this process or is parafin or candle wax sufficient?

As far as I have found it doesn't matter. The stuff on nice turning blanks that I have purchased that were coated by the supplier seems like bee's wax (isn't cloudy and seems pretty soft) but hard to believe they would use exspensive wax. I have read and used old house paint. Seems to work as well just put it on so it is thick. Couple three coats.

Anchorseal is one. I think a similar, if not identical, product is the Green Wood Sealer sold by Craft Supply. A single coat is sufficient and I always felt it did an excellent job. But, as Winston notes, just about anything will work fairly well and anything is better than nothing if the wood needs check prevention.
