Hello All,

It’s been a while, I’m glad to be back.

Every once in awhile I let my mind run wild and do things that most woodworkers don’t do. The pictures below are an example of just “letting go” and to be honest, I’m beginning to enjoy the time I spend in this mode.

The piece is roughly 40” wide, 54” tall and is made from maple, padauk, purpleheart and yellowheart. It is held together with 30 pieces of 3/8” 6061 polished aluminium rod.

This piece has no function whatsoever, except to just ……………………..be.

All the best
Gord

Interesting piece. I see you are a cabinet maker by trade, it's nice to think out of the box sometimes!

That is a wonderful decorative piece! Great work, I like the table below it as well, kind of an updated Mission design.

Thanks for posting

Gord, my compliments to you on BOTH pieces! Heck, I even like the tissue dispenser you have there! The wall art is just that...ART! Very strking, to my eyes. As for the table, I may just have to do a shameless theft of that design for our own home! I think that general design would go real well with the architectural lines of our home.:) Nicely done and thanks for the post(s) and inspiration!:)

Gord, I love them both. Mixed media is one of my favorite forms of art and many times when seen in a gallery, you can't envision where it might go. This was oviously made to go there and the table is a perfect complement.

Bring a piece like this one dimension further and have the middle part jump out from the wall, just a little.

Awesome job. Have you don't anything else like it?

Hi John,

I’m glad you like the pieces but I’ll stand up here and now and tell you that the table was inspired by a wonderful woodworker in the States named Guy Marsden. He has a way with design and I felt compelled to liberate some of his ideas.

Gail,

Thanks for your kind words and suggestion, the piece was made to go into my hallway and hang over that particular table.

This is not my first attempt at this kind of work nor will it be my last……………….look for more in the near future including exotic woods, granite and stainless steel.

All the best

Hey Jay! You were close! :p

Fantastic "out of the box" pieces, Gord! They do look enjoyable to make.

Great pieces Gord! I like them both. Not a lot of yellowheart being used out there, but it sure does POP! Nicely done.
