My Minimax S400P (MM16) and Masterwood OMB1V vertical mortiser has arrived today.

still in its wrappings so will have fun in the next few days unwrapping them both...

Check out the size of the mortiser... next to it is a full size combination machine(16" jointer/planner)

the mortiser is capable to cut a mortice that is 3/4" wide, 4 1/2 " deep and 5" long in one stroke, it certainly make my current mortiser look like a baby (can probably see it in one of the photos)

2 machines costed about $12800 USD, the band saw $2400, the mortiser about $10400. think the bandsaw sells for $3600USD

I make specialty or made to measure beds for kids and adult, sometimes larger furniture that require assembly, I should be able to recover the $$$ I spent on the mortiser in 12 months.

Hey Albert.

Very cool. I have an SCM Wide Belt and a Felder Edge Sander in my garage.. So I get it .. I would suggest that whatever needs mortising will be promptly mortised at your house.. :) .

Awesome machine.. I watched some videos.. PS . Is the Mortiser actually made by Centauro ?

Hi Rick, thanks for that, I used to think my Robland is pretty well made and robust, but now having owned a Masterwood it made the Robland felt a bit flimsy and amateurish...

Every panel on the Masterwood is about 3/8" thick, except the front panel where you access to change the blade. no wonder it weighs 1000 lbs.... the hand wheel turns nicely and accurate, the back of the machine looks like front of the machine, a lot of attention to detail to ensure it will last a long long time.

I dont think Centauro makes the mortiser for Masterwood, the name plate on my chisel mortiser says its made in an Italian city called Rimini by Masterwood. Centauro makes their own mortiser, I was quoted $16000USD for a manual mortiser, similar to the Masterwood.

I know my Minimax S400P is made by Centauro because the plate on the machine says its made by Centauro :)
