I was given this bowl blank by a fellow turner in Sydney, Australia during a visit to my daughter and SIL in January 2013. It's Jarah, which I had previously used as a retaining wall when I bought 100 of the from NZ Railways nearly 40m years ago!

My memory of Jarrah that had sat on a railway line for many years was that it ruined chainsaw chains pretty quick! This block was completely covered in wax so I didn't see the bug holes until I started turning it. All I can say is that's one strong bug that can eat this stuff! :D

I just attended a Molly Winton class at our club so decided to "brand" the rim with my pyro tools.

Size is 6.5" x 3", finish is Danish Oil and Deft lacquer and buffed.

C&C welcome!

Very beautiful. I bet that took a long time to turn.

Thanks Brian. Actually, it turn quite nicely though I had to resort to my EWT carbide tools on the inside!
