Does anyone know where I could buy a stem (long shaft handle) that can be used in the center of a lazy susan?

I assume that you are making a multi layer lazy susan. To hold up the second layer, why not use some all thread and jacket it with wood similar to making a pen?

Jim, what did you ever come up with? I'm looking to build my own multi layered cabinet and looking for the swivel/pole/brackets to hold up the shelves.... I know you can buy plastic inserts but they seem very flimsy.
