Has anyone use a Tormek SVD-185 Gouge and Turning Cutter Jig with the WoodSharp Tool Bar Attachment Item # WSSA0002601 on their Work Sharp 3000 and if so what are your thoughts and how well does it work on gouges?

Thanks Richard

Here is the text from Work Sharp site:

WSSA0002601

The Tool Bar Attachment provides a faster, more consistent and repeatable way to sharpen lathe turning tools. It provides Work Sharp owners and lathe turners with more precise and consistent results, even on very complex grind types. Current users of the WS3000 will find that the new Tool Bar Attachment also provides improved freehand sharpening both above and below the grinding wheel. Users of other water based sharpening systems, who may already own an assortment of other manufacturer’s jigs - such as TormekŪ or JETŪ - will find that the WS3000 with Tool Bar Attachment not only accommodates those jigs, but provides a faster way to sharpen without the mess of water or inconvenience of having to maintain a consumable grinding wheel.

The WS3000 Tool Bar Attachment is constructed from cast metal components and a steel tool bar:

[*=left]Sharpens Gouges, Skew Chisels, Parting Tools, Roughing Gouges and Scrapers with ease and repeatability – with addition of TormekŪ or JETŪ sharpening jigs (sold separately).
[*=left]Installs quickly into the T-Slots on the back of any WS3000 and does not interfere with other sharpening operations or functions of the tool.
[*=left]Provides a rigid and stable platform for freehand sharpening or the use of sharpening jigs.
[*=left]Steel tool bar has a durable, black oxide finish for long lasting performance and smooth operation of sharpening jigs.
[*=left]Incorporates a Micro-Adjust feature which provides precise Tool Bar Height positioning for increased precision, repeatability and ease of use.
[*=left]Is fully adjustable and allows for sharpening access to any part of the grinding wheel. This maximizes abrasive life and allows users to control the rate of grinding and heat.
[*=left]Includes a Set Up Fixture which creates consistent and repeatable tool set ups for fast and easy sharpening results. Set Up Fixture provides multiple Tool Stick Out and Tool Bar Height settings for creating different grind angles on various types of lathe turning tools.

I saw one demonstrated at the Worksharp display at the woodworking show in St Louis. It works nicely. You have to get the Tormek Jig separately. I haven't bought one yet but probably will at some point. It gave good repeatable results in my opinion.

I do. Is that a joke or are you serious?

Kyle I know the Tormek systems are great sharpening systems but I just wanted to make sure the jig for the gouges work equally as well as the system. As I am looking to use it for my Worksharp and if it doesn’t work that well then money not well spent. Basically I have never used one of the gouge jigs.

Thanks Richard

I have a WS2000 that I never found a use for, after buying it as Sears for $9 (can't resist a bargain). I mounted it sideways and now use it with my wolverine jig. I find it to much easier than with a grinding wheel.
It's about the same thing, isn't it?

Wood works are the mothers of invention. If it works it works.

Ah, I am sorry. There is a question in your question. The gouge jig works well, in my opinion, although most woodturners prefer the Oneway Wolverine since the Tormek is very slow. Since the Tormek jig moves on 2 axis, you can probably duplicate any grind out there. As far as how it will work with your WS, I don't know, but it will be faster since the WS is more of a grinder. Good luck!

Kyle thanks for clarification on my question on the jig itself. I think it should work.

Thanks again for all the feedback.
