I am contemplating getting a large Byrd for the shaper but I do not see anything on the site about reverse rotation. Am I thinking right that you could just flip it for reverse rotation?

I can't answer it from experience, but my first thought is: would the spiral of the head want to "lift" the material if flipped and reversed? Could be a non-issue as almost every application would involve a power feeder or jig fixture and heavy down pressure. Maybe the chips would want to fly high?

Again, this is me just thinking on two cups of coffee.

I've done this with no ill effects.

I would just call them up and ask them directly…..no better way than direct from the course;)

I do it all the time. Just turn it over and run you shaper in reverse. On my Byrd when I use the bearing, I have to use a small shim to prevent the bearing from rubbing on the top cutter. I just use one of the shims from my Freeborn raised panel set.

You will need another spindle nut to make sure it does not loosen .

Yup, just turn it over. It's a spiral but not in the directional sense like router bit. Used one at a job I subbed on, work great.
