Hi, folks. I'm looking for a source for a knob with stud. Specifically, a T-knob with a 1" or 1 1/2" 1/4X20 threaded stud. Any pointers?

Alternately, any knob that's not too huge with any 1/4X20 stud that's not too long. I need to be able to drill a hole in the knob to attach a line to tie to the boat to keep the knob from the deep blue sea (well, lake).

Woodcraft and Rockler have studded knobs but not T-Knobs.

I'd appreciate any pointers toward a couple of these things.

Thanks.

Diane

Reid Tool generally has a lot of stuff like that. Unfortunately, I threw out that catalog only yesterday as I was cleaning up my office. (A rare thing...)

Try these places Diane...

knobrit (http://www.knobsrit.com/)

Boetco (http://www4.thomasregister.com/catalog.cgi?script_name=catalog.cgi&script_name=TPdcompany.cgi&search_type=product&search_string=Knobs%0A&az=73976078&pn=0005070&seq=20&&ph=&uuid=THezsrch)

Or have fun with a ThomasRegister search at

ThomasRegister Knob Search (http://www.handles-ez.com/handles/0040060_0005070_1.html#)

Good Luck!

Diane,

Another alternative (if I understand what you need)..... Woodcraft sells 1/4X20 threaded inserts that are 1/2" long. You could make your own knob using 2 or 3 of these threaded inserts. Just a thought. Dave.

Diane, I think MSC Industrial Supply has what you want. Take a look at: http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=1162

If MSC or McMaster-Carr doesn't have it, you probably didn't need it anyway. ;)

McFeeley's (square drive screw folks). I think they might also have them.

Try Lee valley. They have a T knob with a 1/4 inch stud.

Diane.

Please excuse me if I recommend the obvious, but have you tried Bishops? I have bought similar knobs there.

Regards,

Bob

Thanks, folks. Dale Sherman stopped by the other day just to say hey and managed to talk me into making my own knobs w/ studs by epoxying some bolts into some wooden knobs. In fact, he almost had me convinced to turn some from Tagua nuts! Whadda guy. It was good to visit with him and show him the shop and the boat.

Bob... Bishop's had only one knob and didn't know when they'd get more in. Also... I needed stainless or brass stud since it's going on a boat. But yeah, I did finally realize that I should check there. Thanks.

Happy shavings, everyone.
