Cleaning up more of the tools in the workshop and noticed that the bed on my Jet 13 inch Planer/Molder with the enclosed base has Rust on it. Been years since I did this , so got some questions.
1. How difficult is it to remove that cast iron bed ? Looks like just 4 bolt holding it down . Can I just take those 4 bolts off and pull that cast iron bes out , or is there more disassembly required ?
2. Got one of those black plastic tubs that I bought at H.D. for mixing a few bags of cement. Looks like the planer bed would fit inside the Black plastic tub. I was thinking of buying a few gallons of Vinegar to pour in the tub and then put the planer bed in the tub with the Vinegar. I tried WD40 and sandpaper , but it's taking too long. What do you think; a week or 2 in the tub be enough to get the rust off ?
3. Best coating for the planer bed after I get the rust off ???
