LOML and I took a ride this evening 1-1/2 hours before sunset to check out a covered bridge that was featured in the local paper that we had never heard of. We found the bridge, but it was a bit of a disappointment as you can drive across it, but you really can't get a decent view of it from the side and it appears that the land around it is posted.

Nonetheless, we continued on our drive and were rewarded a bit further south when we happened upon a Red Fox hunting in a field fairly close to the road. When we stopped, the fox paid no attention to us and we could see that she had several large field mice (Voles) in her mouth. She would pick them all up and walk a short distance, stop and lay them down then pounce and catch another one. Then she would go back and pick up the previous catch and proceed on. We watched her catch at least 4. During the entire time she remained unaware of us and continued to work toward the road. Since I had taken my camera with me to photograph the bridge, I was able to get several really good shots. Here is one of the best. Try counting how many mice she has in her mouth.

I always thought that foxes were dog like but I think the truth is they are more cat like than dog like, therefore the pouncing makes a great description. Either way that would have been very fun to watch!

Thats a great shot! My girls and I got to watch and snap some good pics of a badger working on digging out a prairie dog a couple weekends ago. Interesting to watch the critters at work.

Great photo! Nature is amazing. I've seen small foxes here in the fields but they were just strolling around. It would have been neat to see one "working"....

Looks like that fox has a good start for a family meal of ratatouille.
