Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my table saw. Currently I own the ridgid ts3610. It is a great saw currently, but I am considering upgrading. What table saws do you consider a good upgrade from this? I am on a budget of less than a 1,000. I know its not much of a budget. Although, I would like to upgrade to about a 2hp to a 3hp. If it is a good used table saw I would consider it. I have looked at grizzly and they seem to have a nice hybrid saw. Although, the fence only goes to 30". Mine currently can rip pieces to 36", which is a nice feature to have.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks,

Gary

I recently sold a very nice, low mileage 3HP Unisaw with the works. Can't remember exactly, but I let it go for 7 or $800. I would look for one of those, as there are a lot around.

If your saw the TS3612? If you have 220v, jumping up to a 3hp cabinet saw would offer significant upgrade potential IMO. A new Griz G1023RL (http://www.grizzly.com/products/10-3-HP-220V-Cabinet-Left-Tilting-Table-Saw/G1023RL) is $1294 shipped, but you can keep your eyes peeled for a good used cabinet saw. I made the jump from a nice GI 50-185 contractor saw to a Craftsman 22124 hybrid, and thought it was a nice upgrade. I later made the jump to a Shop Fox 3hp cabinet saw that was even better. Both of those saws offered a lot more mass, inboard motors, and both had cabinet mounted trunnions that were easy to align. The key to an upgrade from what you've got is identifying what you feel are shortfalls or nuisances, and getting a saw that addresses those.

You can gain rip capacity (http://lumberjocks.com/knotscott/blog/34563) with the new G0715P hybrid or the G1023RL pretty easily, so I wouldn't let that be a major obstacle.

Good luck

Depending on where you are in WI, and what you're looking for in a table saw...Steel City posts demo units on Chicago Craigslist about every 3 months. Some of those are priced very well, and Bolingbrook, IL shouldn't be too bad of a drive from the Milwaukee area. Unfortunately, best they have in the current ad is a pair of refurb 35950's at $770 each. Only 1.75 hp motor on that saw.

Save up a little more money and get the Grizzly 1023. Your only talking a few $100 and over the life of the saw that cost is negligible.

I think I might either save my pennies or just be patient and keep an eye on craigslist, something will come up eventually! But I also agree that there are probably a lot of good very slightly used machines out there.
