I installed a 35ohm 400 watt wire wound resistor on my WJ200 2.2kw VFD tonight. I am down to .55 second starts and .75second stops on my 3HP Millport CNC knee mill (huge) and that is with a 3" facemill on a nmtb30 shellmill tool holder and 3000rpm (IE not wimpy - like 3-4lbs just in tooling) setup. The facemill was just a mass test. The purpose is to have very fast start and stops for floating head tapping.

The resistor was $35 shipped at a surplus center in Nevada. The 35ohm 400-500 watt is correctly sized for 3hp and 5hp Hitachi WJ200 VFDs. See the manual for other VFD selections.

Brian on hobby-machinist came up with the settings - Big thanks to him!!

If you are looking for settings and they are not displayed go to b037 on the WJ200 and change it to 00 this will give you full panel access.

These are not all the WJ200 settings - just the ones to enable DC braking and set it up to not error. These are also for a 4 pole 60hz 3hp induction motor with FLA 8.6amps - NOT A 400hz chinese spindle on a cnc machine so keep that in mind at A061, A062, B012, B022, etc. These were set for a mill not a router. They will work just fine on a router too just make the correct settings.

I am guessing many on SMC would use this to slow a jointer or planer head or big heavy blade setup on a saw.

Here are the settings. Reference them in the manual to fully understand them. These will get you well on the way to enable the braking. The WJ200 series have a braking module built in so all you need to add is a resistor.

A039 = 04
A042 = 5.0
A044 = 03 this will give you full torque at low hertz.
A051 = 01
A052 = .25
A054 = 60%
A061 = 60hz.
A062 = 8 hz.

B settings

B012 = Full load amperage on motor name plate.... mine is 8.6
B022 = 16.5 refer to page 59 of the quick ref. guide for the formula
B038 = 201
B090 = 10.0
B095 = 02
B097 = set to 35
B130 = 01
B133 = 1.0
B134 = 5.0

F settings

F002 = .55 acceleration time
F003 = .75 deceleration time

Hooked the resistor to RB and +
