Bit of exaggeration that some soccer player owns a stable of cars that would put Leno to shame. Jeez.

I found that strange as well because Leno has a heckuva collection and I would think made a ton more money but who knows.

Doesn't he own something like four or five classic Bugattis? And those things don't come cheap.

I'd be willing to bet that the soccer player wouldn't have the Moxie to buy & restore one of these:

Shipping it to Canada is the deal breaker for me!

Jay has a lot of the odd, old and rare. He employs old world craftsman types who rebuild the cars he gets, and he's got a nifty youtube channel where he talks about things like building boilers for the old steamers.

I don't think he likes as much to spend lots and lots of money on the new and depreciating, though I'm sure the amount of care the older cars get and the cost of employing folks to do the work makes it so they're not a money-neutral or better proposition.
At any rate, it was a reach by a writer to try to make something sound fantastic, but it was ill advised.

I can't find a current list of Jay's cars, but he does have 3 bugattis (not including replicas), 5 duesenbergs, a cord and 5 bentleys as of a 2008 list that was posted on ask.com. I don't know if the list is legitimate, but some of the interesting cars he definitely has (the doble and white steamers, etc) are on there, so I don't have any reason to doubt that it's not.

He probably wouldn't know how to run it safely, either.

He may not have as many cars as Leno, but he has some very nice ones.

There are others out there that have far more cars then Leno. There was an owner of a garbage collection company in Tacoma, WA that held the world record for the largest private auto collection. See Harold LeMay's history via google or go to lemaymuseum.org to see some of the cars in the museum they opened.

I'm working on a good book right now. The Corvette in the Barn by Tom Cotter. It's filled with great barn find stories about people owning cars who are not in the public eye.

Chasing Classic Cars on the Velocity Channel is a favorite show of mine. Wayne Carini definitely happens upon many a rare barn find.

Even if I could afford the car, the impound fees would probably break me...

The 650 ain't the problem.........it would be taxing, but doable(yeah, right). The problem is keeping tyres on the bloomin thing.Just guessing here, but they're probably about 250+ bucks a piece. Now,figure two/three sets a year(that's with no track days).....it really starts to get expensive, just sayin.Get a Mustang or a Vette.....your tyre bill will be the same but,the initial purchase price is so much more tolerable.Remember,"he with the best rubber, usually wins"....it's not a HP thing.

It is amazing but one of the biggest safety improvements that came for classic muscle cars were better tires. Tire technology improved significantly over the last few decades.
