I have been using the Abranet sanding disks on my Bosch 5" RA and they have been great. Recently the disks stopped sticking to the hook and loop pads. It appears I was suppose to get and interface pad but not sure what to get. I can get a new pad from Bosch but it looks like Mirka makes them too that are the interface?

What exactly am I suppose to get to keep the disks attached to the pad?

Need some help on this one the as Mirka site isn't over flowing with information.

Thanks,
Scott

I have the 6" Mirka Ceros and use the Abranet discs with the interface pad and also the pad protector. To answer your question if I am understanding it correctly, you need to replace your Bosch hook and loop pad first, second, buy the Mirka pad protector to put between the Bosch and the sanding discs, item number #9955 , and then use the Abranet discs.

The pad protector is thin for a reason. The interface pads are thicker, 3/8" thick and will cause issues for flat surfaces, those are best for contours only. I'm building a boat and use all of these for various reasons.

Here is the 5" pad protector you want: http://mirka-online.com/mirka-tools-accessories-1/mirka-finishing-sanders-and-accessories-1/mirka-sander-accessories/mirka-interface-pads-1/9955-mirka-5-in-dia-abranet-pad-protector-qty-5.html
Here are all the different pad options (can be confusing): http://mirka-online.com/mirka-tools-accessories-1/mirka-finishing-sanders-and-accessories-1/mirka-sander-accessories/mirka-interface-pads-1.html

Here is where you can buy a new Bosch base pad: http://www.boschtools.com/Service/ProductServices/Pages/replacementparts.aspx
or use ereplacementparts.com

The Bosch parts site is good, can be confusing, parts prices are good and shipping is very prompt from my own experiences. There is a tiny "click here" link halfway down on the Bosch parts page to get you going.

Pad protectors and interface pads are available on amazon. The best prices I have seen are from 2sand.

yes, amazon has them: http://www.amazon.com/Mirka-9955-Abranet-Faced-Protector/dp/B0013E0R6Y/ref=pd_cp_hi_0

They are currently being sold through Router Bit World via amazon. Router Bit World is good, very prompt to ship. I've bought bits from them and will again.

The pad protectors are intended to be longer term wear items. So a 5 pack is a good idea but those could last you years.

Here's the info for the Abranet interface pads from Mirka. I think I got mine from Woodcraft. Pics have P/Ns and item numbers. These work great and accommodate just about any dust extraction hole pattern.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but has anyone tried the Mirka Autonet sandpaper as it appears to be similar to Abranet as it comes in 120, 180, and 240 grit.

i use it. forget what the actual difference is between abranet and autonet.

I suspect they are the same, but the autonet is aimed at auto body shops. I have both, and they seem to work the same. Abranet is brown, Autonet is grey. I got half a dozen boxes of Autonet from a Woodcraft store on clearance, and they had pics of cars on the boxes.

Scott, I just went through the same problem. I ended up buying two 5 packs of pad protectors, and two new pads through Amazon. I looked on the Mirka site for a new pad that would fit my Milwaukee sander, but all I could find were pads for their own sander. If someone knows of a Mirka pad for my Milwaukee, I sure would like to hear about it.

The pad protectors do not have 8 hole spacing, they are made for the Mirka pad. I have only used one briefly, and it seems to work with DC, but it seems like it would be better with the normal hole pattern. We will see.

PS: It seems there are two basic hole patterns to mount pads on most sanders. The three hole pattern fits PC, DeWalt, and B&D, that I know of. The four hole pattern fits my Milwaukee, Rigid, Ryobi, and perhaps more.
