Hi, all -

I have a 10" Richardson Bros back saw I wanted to learn to sharpen. The spine is heavily pushed down on the toe:

Now, I had Bob Rozaieski retooth another Richardson back saw for me last year, and the spine was similar. He reset the back (http://logancabinetshoppe.com/blog/2013/01/episode-47/) (that's actually my saw in the video), with the rationale that it was not a canted blade based on the plate's geometry, therefore the spine should be level. Sounded good to me. So, when I got the new saw, I figured on resetting the spine before I made a new tote or learned to file.

Then I read this: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?89606-Backsaw-question&p=902062#post902062. And now I'm not sure what to do. I've got Bob's assertion, which makes sense, and I've got Mike Wenzloff arguing a'gin.

I'm sure this is kicking a hornet's nest, but I'm way too green with regards to this stuff to know which way to go. It'd be loads easier to not have to knock the thing off and try to reset it. But if resetting the spine is the correct course of action, then I'll do it.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Scott
