Definitely a cool vise. Seems like the concept may be a variant of the mechanism on the Jawhorses ..

Very Cool. Where can we find more info about how the vise is built?
A quick search didn't find much except the video already linked.

Found a sketch of his plans over on lumberjocks http://lumberjocks.com/projects/98299. More pix over there too.

That looks like an ingenious design. I wish I could understand how he built it. The drawings don't really make sense to me and the video doesn't really show the details too well.

Looks like it works really well. Props to Mr. Kiefer!

EDIT: It appears that the threaded rod acts like a locking mechanism for the lever. You push down on the pedal, it lifts/lowers the threaded rod against the "half nuts" to engage the threads. This happens while simultaneously acting like a lever for clamping the workpiece. The ratcheting mechanism forces the bottom of the long lever (vise) outward, which in turn pulls the upper portion of the lever inward, clamping the board in place. I just can't figure out his "lift rod" to engage/disengage the threads.

Oo! Oo! I found Kiefer's video explaining how the vice actually works, using a 3D model in SketchUp!

This is really cool. I may have to look into this for my next bench build.

I agree, Jeff. I'm thinking this would be awesome to have, once I finally build myself a permanent bench.

Really neat idea. I like the no-hands operation.

i am thinking this could be built as a stand along that could be bolted to an existing bench. I also think the OP needs to get a patent on this
