I've finally started to make some progress on the buffet I'm building for my brother and his future wife. The center section uses a LOT of biscuits--68 in all.

How are the main sections joined?

The whole wine rack area will be joined with biscuits only. Due to the construction, it will pretty much lock itself together. The vertical peices are going to use biscuits for alignment and long screws up through the bottom. The top will attach to pieces running from side to side.

Made quite a bit more progress this weekend. The entire main carcase is now assembled (it wasn't glued up in the original pictures.) I spent quite a bit of time dovetailing the pieces that the top attaches to into the sides. I did all the work by hand, and I'm pretty happy with the way they came out considering this is the first time I've tried it. They could be a little tighter, but they'll work, and won't be seen anyway. After these pictures were taken, I got the back and the top installed.

Great job, Matt. That dovetailed carcass construction is "darn strong", too...good choice.

Got quite a bit done this weekend, which is good since I have to be done in 3 weeks and will be gone one of those. I built and fitted the drawers, glued up the door panels, and built the base. The base is assebled using all pocket screws. I used my Leigh jig to do the drawer dovetails. To make the door panels, I cut the pieces to width and thickness, glued them up, then cut the v-grooves. That avoided any issues with glue squeezeout.

I actually had the door frames almost done, but due to two measurement errors, I have to start over. I'm going to try to get them and the shelves done tomorrow and Wednesday evening so I can start sanding.

getting there. gee after seeing that nice hand cut dove tail that is used to hold the case together I thought for sure you would be doing the drawers by hand as well. Anyway, it is looking real good
