My daughter liked a bowl made from pencils at the AAW in Tampa, so I made her this bangle.

That is just too cool, John! I saw a hollow form at the Virginia symposium two years ago with the colored pencils cast in resin........don't remember who made it, but remember how unique it was. Your daughter will have something to show off and something to be proud of that her dad made as well!

Pretty cool. I have some granddaughters that would like one, but don't think they will get one from me. It looks like a somewhat complicated process that your did well and the finish looks durable to contain the color material. Are the pencils wax or the hard type?

OK... something else for my to-do list. A most excellent result.

That is cool John! Can you tell us a bit more about how you made it?

Oh man, I thought my son made a mess with a pencil while hiding in my closet. If he ever sees one of these, my walls are in real trouble. :D. Seriously, that is super clever and well executed!

Very cool. Now you need to make her some matching earrings.

Not only is that very clever but very versatile. It should go with most outfits so it has the potential to be a big seller.

John, that is really neat. I'd be interested in how you hardened up the center of the pencils so that it doesn't crumble out.

Great idea, I was intrigued by the pencil bowl blank but never thought of what else could be done with the concept.

Thanks for the comments.

"That is cool John! Can you tell us a bit more about how you made it?" Doug, I just made a quick frame, put wax paper in it, poured in some resin and placed the pencils in. Let that harden and turned it.

"I'd be interested in how you hardened up the center of the pencils so that it doesn't crumble out." - Steve, I really didn't do much. The biggest problem was keeping the colors from bleeding when sanding. To solve those problems, I used shellac between each coat of sanding.
