This table has a base made of Andiroba, M&T joinery. Top is Black Walnut that is suspended by aluminum rod. Butterflies are spalted Maple, M&T pins are aluminum.

Very nice, but we've come to expect nothing less from you! What happened to giving up live edge. Glad you didn't.

Are the aluminum rods all the way through the slab? It looks like there's not enough slab thickness to drill a hole that big through it. On the other hand, I remember the origami butterfly table.

Thanks for the comments guys! The rods each go into the slab 5" There is 5/16" of material above and below the rod. Below is a photo of the beefy M&T & a photo of wood test dowel in one of the holes.

That is a piece of art and still functional as well. I always liked the use of some steel (aluminum) in furniture projects. For me it helps soften the look of the wood, and that table is beautiful.

that table is outstanding! being a beginning woodworker, i've always anticipated the day I would make a live edge walnut furniture piece. well, your table is truly inspiring. give yourself a pat on the back. great design, did you come up with it all on your own or draw up some ideas from other builders??

I always use my own design, most don't even go on a sketch pad. I enjoy building from an idea in my mind and go from there.

That's a very nice table, Dale. The design is very interesting in that you decided to put the legs outside the top rather than under it. It's like the board is "captured", as a museum piece might be. It's very well-thought-out.

The design cam about because I wanted the footprint to be equal on both ends vs a narrow & wide end. I also wanted the top to float or be suspended. My other thought was to have the table be able to be disassembled easily for moving or storage. This design meets all my needs.
