Thinking about buying some 6"x6"x3" blanks. Just wondering if one can get a decent HF form out of such a blank. I'm thinking the 3" thickness might be problematic. I prefer 8"x8"x4" actually. Being faceplate orientation, I suppose I could use a glue block to minimize tenon waste, but still.

So, whadaya think? Is a 6x6x3 blank limited to bowl making?

Put a glue block on it and go at it..

I'm cheap and almost all my "bought" wood will have a glue block added to avoid wasting the expensive wood. I tend to purchase the thinnest block also to reduce both purchase and shipping cost. I will even use a glue block on some of my free wood to maximize use of the wood.

Southwestern pueblo seed bowls look good in this size block.

Potpourri pots fit a 6x6x3 block fairly well with an ~2-1/2 inch opening. Or go smaller opening w/out a lid.

Get some scrap wood you can cut to this dimension, put on the glue block, and try it for free. At least you'll know then if you like working on this size piece or not.

Should work fine. I have made HFs using 6"x6"x2" blocks.

My Jacaranda 'Drum' came from a 6" round, but was close to 4" thick and finished up at 3 1/2" so 6x6x3 is a bit shallow for my tastes but it would work for a slightly flatter form.
