Hi to all the Clock makers out there
This is my take on a regular clock design with a few modifications. To start off with, you can set the clock on the right time, by just turning the minute hand instead of taking the hands off the clock and putting them back on the right time. Secondly I have increased the size of the cable drum from 25mm to 160mm, which will make the weight necessary to drive the clock a lot lighter than the original 6kg weight. The clock runs beautifully by just putting a slight pressure on the great wheel. This clock is just a test model to see if all my improvements work well. Then I will make it out of Baltic Birch 6mm and 9mm. Test cutting on the laser the Birch plywood burnt badly, which could be because of the glue used in the lamination. Therefor I have built a pin router using a drawer slide to set the cutter height up and down. I use the laser to cut the gear patterns in acrylic, which is then pinned on the Birch plywood and then cut on the pin router. The finish is far better than the burnt edge of the laser cut depending on your preference. It takes me approximately 10 minutes to cut out a 210mm gear on the pin router. Once I complete this clock and test it I will post dxf drawings on this site. Kind regards Mannetjie Tzaneen South Africa.
