Bought this sometime back and worked on it as time permitted. All I have to do is put it back together. It was pretty rusty but cleaned up nicely. Used Jet paint, Rustoleum, and gun bluing solution. Looking forward to using it soon. :D

Looks like a nice job. Did you replace the cutter head bearings since you had it disassembled that far? It will be a great machine once it's purring again!

I did not think about replacing the bearings but that is an excellent thought. They seem solid, turn smoothly, and I see no rust on them. I have no idea on how to tell how much they worn. Is there a way to determine if they need replaced?

Thanks

They aren't terribly expensive and it makes sense to do it now while the machine is apart.

You can get replacements from McMaster, which would be less expensive than trying to source them from Jet.

switch the cutterhead to a segmented, while it's apart and put in new bearings...Do it now and it will last for years without worries.

OK - You guys convinced me to change the bearings now. That will be good piece of mind. Guess I will have to get a bearing puller as I do not own one.

Thanks for the tips.

That is a good little machine, I had one (in Jet blue) for a lot of years before I upgraded to an 8" jointer. Nice job on the referb. +1 on new bearings while you have it apart.
