I've been noodling the idea of making a workbench for my little ones (7 and 9 years). This way they can do something constructive. Wondering if anyone has pics of a suitable table. I know for one I need to make the legs either adjustable of easily replacable(sp?) so I can raise the bench as they get older. I will most likely put an end vice on both sides to save a little arguing.

Jim,

Here is a thread posted a few days ago that I remembered and dug up for you. I think you will enjoy this one.... right down your alley.

Ya, I saw that. A little more time than I plan on spending for my kids' bench. Besides, my kids WILL NOT have a bench nicer than mine.

Jim,

For what it is worth since your kids are older, here is a link to rough sketches of the dimensions of the bench I built measured bench (http://www.loup-garou.net/apprenticebench3.html). I used lag screws on the base so that the legs could be changed as junior gets taller.

Ya, that stupid article is what really has me thinking hard on the bench right now. I didn't really like the bench they have.

Not sure how big I want to make the bench since there is a 50/50 chance it gets good use, and you know how valuable shop space can be. I really like
Kurt's bench, but that sure looks like it will take a long time to build.

They look like sawhorses to me.......

Build the bottom trestle like Kurt's and put a flat door on the top (trimmed to your liking:) )......3'-0" door would make two 18" wide benches......

Here is a site with plans for a simple easy to build bench.
When I saw your boys were 7 & 9, I thought they might get a charge out of helping Dad build their own workbench. I may do this with my 10 yr old Grandson(and no Cameron you can not use my powertools when I`m not in the shop!).
This site came to mind because, he had his son about 11 (I think)build it to see if it was simple enough anyone could do it with hand tools.
