I just bought a powermatic 2013-3 band saw and it is three phase machine (got a good deal) My question is has anyone had experience using a vfd to operate the saw on single phase power? I have heard info on the TECO FM50 AC Drive for a 3 hp motor. the manual is 67 pages and very confusing (to a carpenter) any input would be appreciated.

I have one and put a vfd on it. It fits perfectly inside the access door in the spine. Wiring was pretty straightforward. Check in this thread for install pics.

Looks great, Someone said that using a vfd effects the power of the motor by 1/3 do you see a problem with that on your saw?

I *think* that if you buy an appropriately sized vfd you won't have hp loss. Static phase converters on the other hand cut hp by 1/3.

I have the teco fm50 you mentioned. If you go that route feel free to pm me if you have wiring questions.
