Ok. I have this bookcase that was made out of recycled barn wood. The wood may be an oak or ash. It is finished with tung oil. Now the problem. The back has little holes and there is super fine sawdust coming out. I'm guessing these are powder post beetles. How do I get rid of them. Burning the piece is out and putting the whole thing in the microwave is out. What can I do to wipe the little critters out for good ?

Isn't Borax a fairly safe treatment?

Just asking.

You should be able to place the entire bookcase in a large plastic bag. Check with a local mattress seller to get a bag from a mattress. Obtain and aerosol fumigant from your local or internet pest control company. Place the bookcase in the bag, activate the spray in the bag and seal it up. Let it set for the prescribed amount of time noted on the label. That should take care of your problem.
