I have 2 Stanleys that are good for large things but not on smaller jobs. What kind of plane(type) do you folks recommend on those small detail jobs? THANKS!

Jack. It kinda depends on what you mean by small things. I have 2 no name block planes for general cleanup and end grain. I have a shoulder plane for mortises. An old Bailey #7, and another no name # 4 or 5. I also have a large Stanley jointer plane, but I'm too much of a klutz to use it properly. It's still fun to play with though.
You may want to try posting this on the neander board with a little more specific info. The folks there are sure to be able to help you.
