Maximillian if your interested in redoing the japaning both the 5 and the 7 were redone in these photos I can give you his contact info if you would like that is a baked on enamel he does a beautiful job. Its a 7 day process but looks pretty authentic and is durable. The 7 was in pretty rough shape...Jim I think I have seen yours but you can show the rest how much I suck if you want lol!!!

Glenn I believe the biggest thing with the 11 was that Stanley had worked over the way the frog seats to the plane body and made a couple other improvements to the adjustments also it was the last year that they made the low style front knob which some people prefer! I maybe mistaken and if I am please feel free to correct me!

lol yes I put my planes in bags !! Im a freak when it comes to taking care of things but it is a practice that has served me well over the years. I was always told if you take care of it it will take care of you and by golly they are right !! other than things that are designed to break I have had very little problem with anything. lots of things I have bought over the years have shown much abuse and have not been cared for well but after I clean things up if its possible there ready for another 100 years these planes should last my son the rest of his life I know they will out last me!!

Yes, we do!

I don't know if I have a current picture.

Here are some old pictures.

Maybe it is time to take some new images. Two of these were taken before we moved.

A few of those have been sold.

Two patent dates in most type studies signifies a type 9 (1902-07) or type 10 (1907-09)
By the time of the type 11, there are three patent dates cast into the bed.

Wait now . . .
I was reading recently that your work bench should look like it fell off a truck. Anything else is embarrassing and plane just not OK.

Before that I was reading that once you make a nice piece of furniture that you should beat it up with various dent and ding producing weapons of distresstation.

Now, just as I was digesting that, you show me nice hand planes. Pretty, well cared for tools.

I just can't reconcile all this.

I got to go think this through.

You should probably scratch them all up and rub rust colored paint on them or leave them out in the rain before The Pretty Police find you.
That's my advice.

They are here you know. Watching us.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a wise guy, any plane in working order has some value.
But, I'll assume you're asking if it's valuable.
Well, if it's in really nice shape (no cracks, welds, repairs, owners' initials, solid rosewood knobs, correct iron, no pitting, much or all of its original japanning, etc., etc.) then it could fetch anywhere from 75 to 100+ dollars (or more on a good day with enthusiastic bidders)

If it is in typically-found condition, then figure 40-50 dollars.
One of the problems is that a no 6, though a fine plane, is not as in demand as a 4, 5 or 7.

Here are a couple of images from today:

284341

Six of them are obvious. The other three are there, just not screaming "Hi I'm a plane."

284342

Looking at this picture I noticed the side rabbets are on the bench. My shoulder plane now rests in one of the drawers on the left. There are still a few more in drawers and boxes around the shop.
