I have a Tormak wet grind sharpening system with a leather wheel that uses white honing compound. I have only used the Tormak brand compound, but its expensive. I have a brick of white compound that I think is used for high speed buffing. It is brick hard and I don't see how it would apply to my slow speed leather wheel. I searched google for buffing compound and found a site that offered white compound in brick form that claimed " needs no softening", so now I'm wondering if there some way to soften the brick that I have? Does anyone have a suggestion on a lower priced alternate compound in bigger quantity than a small tube? Does the color of the compound have anything to do with the grit?

This may be the wrong form, would the administrator please feel free to move it. The Tormak does have a cord:)
