Hi all. I purchased the variable speed Milwaukee router 5616-20. I think its a great router but have a question about the variable speed that even Milwaukee tech support couldn't answer for me.
The speed goes from 10,000rpm to 2,000rpm and the speed dial goes from 1 to 7 but that's where the correlation ends. I can assume that 1=10,000rpm and 7=24,000rpm but what if I want
to run a bit at 17.000rpm ? Where would I set the dial ? Milwaukee wasn't able to tell me if the dial had a linear relationship to the speed ? Does anyone have any ideas ? Thanks for your help

I found a reference for this somewhere and it turned out to be linear -- i didn't put a scope on it to know for sure, simply because router speed is sort of a finger in the wind proposition anyway - how many actually know exactly what RPM they sling their bits?

Thanks Jason, Knowing it's linear helps. I can roughly guess that each increase in number is an increase of about 2000 RPM since the range 10,000 to 24,000 is 14,000 and 14,000/7 = 2000 ??
Hope my math is correct.

Sounds right to me, yeah. Dunno how accurate it is - but it's somewhere in that vicinity :)
