Anybody have any comments on the Festool OF1010 EQ ?
Would it be classified as a mid-size hand held router?
Is it really light weight?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

the Festool OF 1010 is the only router I have and I'm completely satisfied. Not that I wouldn't like to get more routers but, honestly, the OF 1010 does everything I want.
Yep, IMO (and according to European standards and categories) it is a mid-sized router. In Europe the OF 1010 is considered to be in the same class as the Dewalt DW 621 (regarding power and applications). The reason why this might seem to be strange is that the Euro DW 621 does NOT accept 12 mm or 1/2" shank bits while the US DW 621 has a 1/2" collet.
I really like the grip of the OF 1010 because it can be used with only one hand - just as Festool claims. I appreciate that quite a bit when working with the guide rail or the fence.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Regards,

Christian

Dave,

Christian has summed it up quite well. I have the 1010 as well as a Bosch 1617. The Bosch should have about 25% more power but I can't see it in my experience. The difference is maximum collet size, 8mm vs. 1/2, and that can be a showstopper for some. If it is for you, consider the OF1400. It is a very fine router, very ergonomic. IMO, they both beat the Bosch. The OF1010 is as powerful but much easier to use and the OF1400 is more powerful and still easier to use. That is the sum of my experience as far as mid-sized routers go.

I have both the OF 1010 and the OF 1400. I'd classify the former as a "detail" machine for dovetails and other things that are best served with 1/4" or 8mm shank cutters. (It will not take 1.2" shank bits) The OF 1400 is the mid-range product. I have a review of the OF 1400 on my site.
