I just purchased a "vintage Merit backsaw" off that auction sight, item # 151236484548. I looked on backsaw.net and did a google search for them but couldnt come up with anything. Anyone around here heard of this maker, are they any good? It was a nice looking saw the plate was a little rusty but that could be replaced with one of the aftermarket ones if need be. I will post some pics when I get it, might be awhile coming from Australia. Thanks for any info.

If you're using it as a DT saw, it doesn't look like the pitting will matter. I think the old saws look better with their original plates unless the pitting makes then undesirable to use.

It looks like a very good saw. I'd have bought it for that price. No clue who the maker is, but it's a quality english-made-looking saw.
