Can anybody recommend a good brand of blast gate for my exhaust system that vents my laser cutter? I need something with very tight connections, preferably plastic; and 5" diameter.

I think you meant diameter and I have not seen 5" - usually they are 4" or 6" and the really big systems have 8". Here is one at Woodcraft but you can get them practically anywhere.

I've seen some decent ones at our local hardware store I would imagine a place like Lowes or Home Depot would probably have something

As Gary indicated, I bought my 4" at WC. I attached it to the exhaust port of the laser which then goes to a 6" pipe where my in-line blower is mounted.

If you have Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/en) store in your proximity they list 5" blast gate on their site.
In Canada Busy Bee woodworking machinery have them in metal or plastic.
