A co-worker had given me two maple logs and as luck would have it, my chainsaw acted up, I got busy with other projects, and these logs sat in my wood pile for a few months. Once I cut into it, I am glad I was lazy!!
I made 2 bowls for him ( A valentines give for his wife, and one for his mom - whos property it came from). I got enough for a couple of bowls for me. This is this first of my bowls. Comments / Critques are welcome.
Bowl is about 12" diam x 4" tall, finished with danish oil + Dr Woodshops bowl finish wax.

Very nice bowl and the spalting doesn't get any better than that. Every time I tried a piece that well spalted it fell apart. You must have the right touch.

Spalted maple doesn't get much better than that! Looks like there is a little figure in there too!

The wood is great, but I really like the form you chose and how you turned the top lip. Well done

thanks for the kind words! There are some interesting features going on besides the spalting. The sister piece to this bowl, if I recall my roughing/bagging order is a little better than this one with a little more pronounced curl going on.
Its been awhile since I turned bowls, so I had to get my fix in!
