Would this work on removing rust from a Cast Iron Jointer top ?

Yes, it will.

Evapo-rust works best when you can soak the item in it. It will also leave a black film that needs to be removed. For a jointer I'd suggest these steps:

1. Use a stiff nylon bristle brush to get the loose stuff off
2. Spray with WD-40 and use a green ScotchBrite pad with your random orbital sander to get more off. Wipe the table clean and repeat.
3. Change to sandpaper with WD-40 starting with 120-150 grit then wipe clean. Be sure to keep the sander moving and cover the tables evenly so as not to take too much from one spot.
4. Move up grits to at least 220, though I go to 400 usually

That will net you a smooth, clean surface. I've restored a number of machines this way with excellent results.

Yes soak towels (the thick blue ones) in evapo-rust, place on jointer, cover in plastic wrap. Behold evapo-rust results...all I did was soak and rinse with Simple Green.
