I'm trying to find this:

Kohler Stator Part # 41-085-06-S

I need one for a TroyBilt Horse Tiller
Kohler 8 HP motor (K181T-301018)

Other than that....how do I get this tiller working again if I can't find a replacement stator???

Try checking with Kohler or another small engine parts company to see if 4108507 supercedes the old PN 4108506. Here are some examples of many sources for PN 4108507 including http://www.jackssmallengines.com/Products/KOHLER/Ignition-Part/STATOR-KIT/055489/60803/s and one on ebay for $80 that are supposed to fit K181 engines.

Good luck,
Dick

check out john deere dealers they use kohler engines on some of their equipment but they call their engines by a different name. I get parts for mine all the time from them. Also check out Ebay I buy new parts there also

I have a TroyBilt with the 6HP Tecumseh. The engine blew up last fall. I ordered a 6.5HP Honda from Small Engine Warehouse (http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/Repower-Old-Equipment/Troy-Bilt-Horse-Tiller-NEWER-4-SPEED-UNITS-Category/). So if all else fails, here is a replacement option. I was able to run it a little bit before winter set in. The Honda made a huge performance increase on my 1983 TroyBilt. The basic tiller was in excellent condition. It now runs better than ever.

Best of luck,
Ed

Dennis,

Check your local Cub Cadet dealer. The early model Cub Cadets were Kohler powered, the same engine as you have on your Troybuilt I think. I have a Cadet Model 72 built in 1964 that has the same engine. I may have what you need in my spare parts bin, if I do I will get back to you ASAP.

I have check about 8 different online supply houses. None of them have it.

The part I need is part 10 in this diagram:
https://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=kohler_engines&mn=K181-301017+ROTO+HOE+CO+(8+HP+(6+kW)+SPECS+30100-30848)&dn=catalogs_19060

Here is a picture of the part:

This site (http://www.troybiltpartsonline.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=HONENG#%2fKohler_Engine%2fK181-301003_ARIENS_%288_HP_%286_kW%29_SPECS_30100-30848%29%2fIgnition_02070043252%2f5523%2fCATALOGS| ~19060) lists the part for $144.63 and it lets me put it in the cart. No gurantee that they actually have it.

The coil kit by itself(PN 47-755-20-S) seems to be available.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/47-755-20-S/0071/501?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=47-755-20-S

Should be available elsewhere as well

Jacks Small Engines lists it....but they truly don't have it. I've called them to make sure before buying.

Lee, I've sent an email to Troybilt Parts online folks you linked for me. They do list it, but the other 9 places I tried listed it, but I was refunded on 2 of them because the charged my card before confirming inventory.

At this point I think I'd be looking at repowering it That's not a cheap part if you can find it and what about the next part you need after that?

If you got no spark then the magneto coil can be replace on some models without buying the mounting plate

I was working on small engines at the time and I had excess parts to rebuild magneto, take your magneto assembler to a small engine shop / lawn mowers -motor cycle-outboard engine-tool rental equipment rental and they should be able to find a part for you, DID YOU set the gap between the flywheel and magnet ?

Ray,
air gap between the flywheel and the coil is fixed. No adjustment.
I have also install new points and new condenser.

It been a number of years since I work on the top of the engine but the spacing was set by the mounting bolts, I held a thin strip of copper against the flywheel and move the magneto up to the copper, the flywheel magnet will hold while the bolts are torque down

You can get an entire engine at H.F. for $100 or so.
A buddy of mine that owns a concrete business has purchased several from them. Never a problem.

This last spring I replaced my Kohler motor on my troybilt tiller with 1 from HF. Now runs better than it ever has. I think it was ~$120.

I agree with the HF replacement, they have what is a 6.5hp for $99 quite often and then all the way up to a 13hp. I see a lot of folks who are building machines for different purposes that are using the HF engines and they work just fine for the price.

Sometimes with the brand name and the age the replacement part is spendy, but like was already said; some small engine repair shop would be able to mount a different coil on that would work.

Good luck,

Jeff
