I came across this in one of the blogs I follow. Blackburn Tools is now offering slotted backs in brass and some in bronze. He has other saw parts for sale, too.

I seem to be missing the spec on how wide the slot milled.

Jim, depending on what size you buy, the slot accommodates blade thicknesses of 0.015", 0.018", 0.020" or 0.025".

The slot size is a choice in the pulldown for each length, along with material.

Always nice to have more options for buying parts, but I love the look of folded backs over slotted.

I too prefer folded backs.

Right now I'm still holding out for more folded backs, but I will say that those Blackburn backs are very competitively priced. About the same as what Mike W always charged.

Thanks for the link. If he keeps his prices competitive I'll definitely go to Blackburn if/when I get tired of waiting for more folded backs. I'm always really happy to see when someone is selling saw parts.

One of these days I'll tackle saw making again. I keep wasting a lot of work screwing the blade slot. . . It's almost hilarious at this point that I can usually saw to that accuracy until I actually need it. I'll keep blaming the saws - they must know they're getting a new handle and aren't into the idea.

Thanks, I missed that.
