Christopher,

Good job on your video. I just got my first issue of Woodsmith and saw the little sander. I was intrigued with it, and may do one, but I think I'll make one change. Rather than wedges, I was thinking of making a top plate that is clamped to the base with bolts secured into a threaded insert. I think I'd still keep the notches, but they would move closer to the ends, away from the bolts so no holes would be required in the strip of sandpaper.

Ill post a picture -- not sure I'm ready to get into videos yet!

Very nice video, thanks. I'm thinking a pc of rubber, mouse pad, cork, or similar on the bottom would help tighten up the paper.

But the notches and wedges not only hold the sand paper in place. They also put tension on it. If you try your method you won't be able to get the paper tight and every time you switch directions the sandpaper will bunch up at the corners and wear out and tear much quicker than if you use wedges.
