Hi all

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the Freud LU79R010 and was wondering if there was a more economical alternative. I don't work with plywood that often but my combo blade chips out some and I need a cleaner cut for an upcoming project.

I know Freud also has the Diablo D1060x, 60 tooth ATB wich is about $30 bucks cheaper. Any other recommendations in the $40-$45 price range?

TIA

George

In a nutshell, no. Frankly, Freud is the economical alternative. I'm sure there are cheaper blades out there, but you get what you pay for.

This is (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330499916721?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649) a closeout under the Oldham Pro logo from Cripe for $20 plus s/h....it'll be very tough to beat for the price. Similar blades sell for $60-$80. Made in the USA.

You might find an Irwin Marples 80T for ~ $50.

This Oshlun blade (http://www.amazon.com/Oshlun-SBL-100080-10-Inch-Melamine-Laminates/dp/B001KW00YI/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1390258883&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=oshlun+hi+atb+blade) is pretty good for crosscutting plywood. I bought one after accidentally ruining my beloved Freud LU80. The Oshlun blade is basically a Freud knockoff which works about the same although it doesn't feel as sharp. They are both HI ATB blades which have tall, pointy teeth to sever the veneer. They eliminate most tear out as long as you have a fresh zero clearance plate on your saw.

I have a couple Oshlun blades for my Festool saws and wouldn't hesitate at all to buy more. My suspicion is that they probably won't last quite as long as a blade that's 2x or more the price. The one I have on my TS55 has cut about a half a bunk of prefinished ply into cabinetry.

I bought a Forrest Duraline Hi-A/T and I've never wished I'd bought something different. But back when I bought mine it was a little over 2x the top of your budget and now....:eek::eek:
